The Faceless Inc. invites artists, educators, performers, historians, tradition bearers, creators, builders, researchers, and community knowledge keepers to participate in accessible nonprofit cultural conversations and preservation projects.

Contributions can be as simple as a short planning call, a 20-30 minute podcast-style Zoom conversation, a longer 30-45 or 60 minute deep-dive cultural conversation, a written Q&A, a prerecorded response, a resource list, or a referral. VRChat participation is never required.

Where Does This Actually Happen?

TempleVR.org is our public home, but it is not the only place the work happens. The Faceless operates across the website, Zoom, Discord, VRChat, phone calls, and written digital formats.

Most guest interviews and planning conversations happen by phone or Zoom. When a guest is comfortable with it, an approved conversation may also be presented to our community through VRChat or Discord. Approved interviews, written features, zines, transcripts, and cultural resources can later be preserved on TempleVR.org for free public access.

Guests do not need VR equipment, a Discord account, or any experience with virtual worlds in order to participate.

One Contribution Can Support Several Preservation Paths

The Faceless uses connected programs so that a conversation or written contribution can be hosted respectfully, preserved carefully, and made useful beyond a single event.

Choose the Easiest Way to Participate

A contribution does not need to be live, lengthy, or technically complicated. We can adapt the format to the guest’s schedule, comfort, accessibility needs, and subject matter.

Short planning call

A 10-20 minute phone or Zoom call to ask questions, discuss topics, confirm boundaries, and decide whether a larger contribution makes sense. Planning calls do not need to be recorded.

Podcast-style Zoom cultural discussion

A relaxed conversation, often 20-30 minutes, focused on the guest’s work, history, methods, cultural context, influences, resources, and the knowledge they believe should be preserved. Recording is optional and discussed first.

Extended deep-dive cultural conversation

For guests interested in exploring a cultural topic in greater depth, we can schedule a 30-45 minute conversation or, by agreement, a full 60-minute session. These longer discussions may examine cultural history, creative methods, lived experience, regional context, artistic influences, community memory, or other subjects that benefit from more time.

The format, recording, audience presentation, review, and archive permissions are planned with the guest in advance.

Written Q&A

We send a manageable set of questions by email. The guest answers on their own schedule and may skip questions that are not relevant. Approved written answers may appear in The Faceless Zine, Dream Crypt Zine, a website feature, or a public archive entry.

Prerecorded audio or video

A guest may provide a short greeting, reflection, mini-lesson, demonstration, or answer to one or more questions without attending a live session.

Resource or screening contribution

A guest or organization may recommend existing public resources, films, articles, exhibits, archives, books, music, artists, or educational materials. Any public presentation or reuse must follow the rights and permissions that apply to the material.

Referral or introduction

A referral to another creator, educator, tradition bearer, researcher, institution, or community expert can be a valuable contribution even when the original contact cannot participate.

Live class, panel, or workshop

When appropriate, guests may participate in a live Zoom, VRChat, or Discord-supported discussion, panel, workshop, or Q&A. This is optional and requires separate planning.

What Happens Before, During, and After a Contribution?

1. Plan

We confirm the format, purpose, approximate length, topics, boundaries, accessibility needs, credit, recording choice, archive choice, and any links or projects the guest wants included.

2. Contribute

The guest participates by phone, Zoom, writing, prerecorded media, a resource contribution, a live session, or another agreed format.

3. Prepare and review

The Faceless organizes the approved material and may prepare a transcript, captions, summary, zine layout, excerpt, feature page, or archive description. A review step can be included so the guest can confirm name, title, links, credit, context, and the approved presentation before release.

4. Preserve or publish

Material approved for public release can be made available free of charge through TempleVR.org. Material approved for internal preservation but not public release may be retained in the nonprofit’s access-controlled Google Workspace cultural preservation archive. A guest may also choose no recording or no archive.

Preservation Is Permission-Based

The Faceless is building a nonprofit cultural preservation system for interviews, written responses, recordings, transcripts, captions, zines, resource lists, educational materials, event documentation, and related cultural knowledge. Not everything submitted or recorded becomes public.

Public archive approvedWith explicit permission, properly prepared material may be published through TempleVR.org and made available free of charge so people around the world can learn from it.

Internal preservation onlyWhen the guest approves retention but not public release, material may be stored in The Faceless Inc.’s access-controlled nonprofit Google Workspace for cultural preservation, documentation, and continuity.

No recording or no archiveGuests may request an unrecorded conversation, written planning only, no public archive, no internal archive, or further discussion before any decision is made.

Written Knowledge Deserves a Durable Home

Guests who prefer text-based participation can contribute without appearing live or being recorded. Written answers can be edited for layout and accessibility while preserving the guest’s meaning and approved wording.

The Faceless ZineThe Faceless Zine is our broader year-round digital cultural and educational publication. It may include interviews, reflections, creative methods, community knowledge, program features, resource lists, cultural preservation material, and contributions from guests and community members.

Dream Crypt ZineDream Crypt Zine is our seasonal Halloween-focused collection. It may include written interviews, horror-host history, creator spotlights, folklore discussions, haunt culture, gothic music and dance, atmosphere and sound, independent horror, dark rides, immersive design, and other Dream Crypt-related material.

Before public release, the guest can be given an opportunity to review how their name, title, organization, links, credits, approved answers, and selected images or excerpts will appear. Approved issues and features may be offered through TempleVR.org free of charge.

Cultural Access Beyond Geography, Cost, and Physical Space

The Faceless Inc. is a disabled-veteran-founded West Virginia 501(c)(3) nonprofit using accessible virtual and digital spaces to reduce barriers to culture, education, creative practice, skill-sharing, community, and charitable participation.

This work can help people who cannot easily travel, live far from cultural institutions, have disabilities or transportation barriers, face financial limits, experience social isolation, lack safe local community spaces, or cannot attend conventions, lectures, museums, performances, classes, and cultural events in person.

By preserving approved contributions online and offering them free of charge, a guest’s knowledge can remain available beyond one date, one location, one platform, or one audience.

Intellectual property

Guests retain their pre-existing work, identity, history, and intellectual property unless a separate written agreement states otherwise. Participation grants only the permissions that are specifically agreed.

Free access

Approved public cultural preservation projects are made available through TempleVR.org free of charge. Participation does not automatically create a partnership, endorsement, co-ownership, or authority to speak for either party.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need VRChat or a VR headset?

No. Most interviews and planning conversations can happen by phone or Zoom. Written participation is also welcome.

Is this a podcast?

Some Portal Posse sessions are best described as podcast-style cultural discussions. Other contributions may be written Q&As, classes, panels, prerecorded messages, resource contributions, or private planning conversations.

Do I have to appear live?

No. Guests can participate through recorded or unrecorded Zoom, phone, writing, prerecorded material, or resource/referral contributions.

Will the interview be recorded?

Only when recording is agreed. The guest may choose yes, discuss first, or no recording.

Will my contribution automatically be published?

No. Public release requires appropriate permission, preparation, and review. Internal retention also depends on the agreed archive choice.

Can I review how I will appear before release?

A review step can be included so the guest can confirm name, title, links, credit, context, selected excerpts, and presentation before public release.

What happens to written answers?

With permission, written answers may appear in The Faceless Zine, Dream Crypt Zine, a website feature, or a public archive page. The approved material can be made available free of charge.

Can my work, books, music, films, events, or resources be linked?

Yes, relevant links and credits can be included when discussed in advance and consistent with the program’s nonprofit educational purpose and promotional policies.

How long is a typical conversation?

Is The Faceless a commercial entertainment company?

No. The Faceless Inc. is a West Virginia 501(c)(3) public charity using virtual and digital spaces for community, culture, education, charity, digital access, creative practice, and cultural preservation.

Does participating create a formal partnership?

No. A guest contribution does not by itself create sponsorship, partnership, endorsement, co-hosting, co-ownership, exclusivity, or authority to represent The Faceless Inc.

What if I cannot participate?

A referral, resource recommendation, or introduction to another appropriate person or organization can still help the preservation effort.

A Small Contribution Can Preserve Something Important

A guest does not need to prepare a formal lecture or make a major time commitment. A few thoughtful written answers, a short cultural conversation, a resource list, or a referral can help preserve knowledge that might otherwise remain difficult to access.
